Daphne Tree Drawing 3

$75.00

Original drawing by Betsy Jacks, Daphne Tree Drawing 3, 2025. Carbon and graphite on paper, 9 1/5 × 7 3/8 inches

This drawing comes professionally matted in a white acid-free mat with 45-degree beveled edge and is protected with a backing board and transparent sleeve.

The drawing is part of the Daphne series, based on the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne, in which the nymph runs away from the sun god, who pursues her unrelentingly. In desperation, she begs her father the river god to save her, saying “destroy my beauty”. In response, he turns her into a tree. This myth has remained popular throughout the centuries and was famously depicted by Gian Lorenzo Bernini during the Italian Renaissance as a titillating tale of unrequited love. My series re-examines the tale from Daphne’s point of view.
